Be Aware Of Glaucoma
Written by Subhasis Chatterjee

It has come to the knowledge that on each May of the year the National Eye Institute (NEI), one of the Federal Government's National Institutes of Health (NIH) observes a Healthy Vision Month. It has been reported, that this year's central focus shall be on the early detection of glaucoma and is meant for encouraging the Americans to make vision a health priority.

The thorough study cases have revealed that more than four million Americans have glaucoma, a grave eye disease that tend to damage the optic nerve and also destroys eyesight. Though it is a fact that nearly half of the people affected with glaucoma are not even aware of having it for its painless and gradual loss of vision and with showing no early warning signs. The researches also found a highly significant data that the groups who are staying at the higher risks on the development of glaucoma are the African Americans with an average of over 40, among the Mexican Americans with an average of over 60 and those people who have a hereditary process with this very disease.

Americans Expend More For Urologic Diseases
Written by Subhasis Chatterjee

It has been confirmed by the latest report from the National Institutes of Health that for various complicated diseases of bladder, prostate and other urinary tract the Americans expend nearly $11 billion a year. In this respect it has also been stated, that the Medicare's share exceeded $5.4 billion.

To the authors of Urologic Diseases in America generally the Americans spend $9.1 billion for the five most expensive urologic problems, which in a perfect descending order has been depicted. They are the urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate and bladder cancers and benign prostate enlargement. The report has been published online in this spring and will be available in print and on CD by the early of May.

The Urologic Diseases in America was funded by the NIH's National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and was developed by a team of epidemiologists, health economists, statisticians, programmers and urologists. The Organization has effectively though tiresome and thankless labor of five years has been able to stitch together a patchwork of reliable data, which are both new but published previously, while revealing the numbers of people who have been affected along with the treatment patterns and economic cost.

Scientists Recognize Reserve Stem Cells
Written by Subhasis Chatterjee

It has come to the knowledge that the researchers have at last identified a backup supply of stem cells that is able to repair the most severe damage to the olfactory nerves that responsible for the sense of smell of living beings in the research being funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the National Institutes of Health.  It has been avowed in this regard by the scientists, that the reserve cells normally lie around doing nothing, but with the death of neighboring cells the stem cells jump into action.

The research paper states that while the only nerve cells in the body are running directly from the brain to the outside world, the olfactory cells are under continuous assault from harsh chemicals that one might happen to catch a whiff of by accident, risking damage or death. The Reed’s team has worked tirelessly in exposing the mouse olfactory nerves to a cloud of toxic methyl-bromide gas while figuring out how the olfactory system repairs severely damaged nerve cells. The Methyl bromide kills not only olfactory nerve cells in due process but also neighboring, non-nerve cells in the nasal passage. Again after chemical exposure of three weeks, the researchers examined nasal cells to identify which, if any, had grown back. What they discovered was that the newly grown cells, both nerve and non-nerve, grew from HBCs-a population of cells not previously known for repair abilities.

South Korean Team Clears Taint
Written by Subhasis Chatterjee

It has been confirmed by an investigative panel here on today that the South Korean scientists long been tainted for fraudulent stem cell studies have finally been released. It is stated, that the greatest debacle for fraudulent stem cell studies happened with the committing of errors in a paper while fabricating the world's first cloned grey wolves but however, did not manipulate the indispensable statistics.

If we go to sometime back, it will be found that the Seoul National University team being the pioneer in the field of stem cell studies was held in high esteem. But with the opening up of the reports of stem cell fraud a great embarrassment and disillusionment engulfed the entire department reducing the international prestige to a considerable extent. It was the same reason for which the team was being investigated on the suspicion of manipulating data for increasing the cloning success rate for the wolves.
